Dreamforce 2018 is officially underway and thousands of Salesforce community members are gathering in San Francisco to see what’s the latest and greatest in the world’s largest cloud economy. While there are more than 2,700 different sessions to attend at the event this week, today there is an obvious focus on one of our favorite game-changing technologies: AI. A tech conference with a robust agenda looking at AI?! Who would have guessed it? Everyone…everyone guessed it.
Even though AI is definitely not a new area of discussion for pretty much every industry, especially among the Dreamforce 2018 attendees, the technology is constantly improving, and industry players are always optimizing it to make the lives of their customers easier and their bottom lines bigger. Keeping an eye on that evolution is crucial to grasping exactly how AI factors into several different elements of your business.
Some of the most anticipated sessions focused on AI today include:
- The Future of Work in the AI Age
- Einstein AI Keynote: Meet Your CRM Assistant
- Retailing in the Age of Voice + AI: Harnessing Disruption with I.AM+ & will.i.am
- How AI Will Drive Business Transformation with Kai-Fu Lee
- Salesforce Research: The Future of AI
Because the Modern Marketing Today team loves pretty much everything AI (especially if we’re talking about how it helps them connect engagement to demand), we compiled some of our favorite tweets from the day. Here are some key takeaways from Dreamforce 2018 attendees on the ground today:
It’s #AI day at #DF18 and we’ve brought those shaping the future of #AI (aka our Salesforce Research PhD #interns) and Einstein along with us to catch @RichardSocher’s keynote! Find out how you can join them at Salesforce at https://t.co/wvIphHRAIq. pic.twitter.com/wSYduuA1TJ

One of the top talking points that came up among those at Dreamforce 2018 was striking that important balance of humanity and technological progress. Largely, attendees felt that AI opens a lot of doors for humans logistically, but some things are always going to need the human touch.
In the age of #AI & #robotics, enterprises require a human-lead transformation, enabling unequivocal experiences, building #digital trust, ensuring a bona fide level of #privacy – @MikeQuindazzi at #DF18 and #ATTBizSummit ✈️ @evankirstel @Tiffani_Bova @ValaAfshar @antgrasso pic.twitter.com/OGQRMqEItZ

Real danger of systematizing bias in AI algorithms applying this to already ‘over-policed’ populations. Don’t use AI for high stakes human decisions. We need Data Sheets for training data sets and AI algorithms. Timnit Gebru, Google AI #DF18

The application of AI for customer service and marketing teams is also something that didn’t elude those on-site at Dreamforce 2018.
Introducing Watson Discovery for Salesforce, the new app that combines the power of @salesforce and @IBMWatson to create an #AI-powered insight engine for customer service. Learn more: https://t.co/AXLkNrysOZ #DF18

Enjoying @ValaAfshar’s discussion of the connected customer. If the avg customer uses 10 digital channels to communicate with companies, do you have a good grip of the various customer decision journeys? Have you started to leverage AI? #DF18 #Dreamforce2018 pic.twitter.com/RX50740iEl

“Marketers don’t need to learn AI in the same way they don’t need to learn Python. It can work under the hood and enable them to do their jobs better.” @peisaacson @Demandbase #OpsStars #DF18 pic.twitter.com/ALfPB8jWm8

One of the largest announcements of the day though was the unveiling of the Salesforce virtual assistant Einstein Voice. By being able to leverage AI in a world where people are becoming increasingly dependent on and trusting of virtual assistants, harnessing that tool for the workforce is the logical next step.
