This week brought Digital East to Tysons Corner, VA, and Modern Marketing Today was live on-site! The event took place over two days and was jam-packed with amazing thought leadership, inspiring new ideas, and renowned speakers. But don’t worry if you couldn’t make it in person! Here’s a recap of all the fun:

Day one started off with a bang as opening keynotes Robin Wheeler of Twitter and Andy Beal from Trackur took the stage. Robin spoke on the importance of capturing the moments that matter, an essential tactic for marketers as they forge meaningful connections with their audience.

Andy Beal discussed social media disasters and how marketers can rectify them. Did you know 83% of companies will encounter a social crisis? Having a social media disaster plan in place is a great best practice for the modern marketer.

A big theme at Digital East was how marketers can spice up their emails. Matt Byrd of Litmus gave a very inspiring talk on the subject. According to Byrd, 75% of people think negatively when they hear the phrase “email marketing”. That’s a hard hurdle for marketers to face. Here are just a few of the great tips from Matt’s presentation at Digital East:

On Day two of Digital East, Strategic Communications Group’s president and CEO, Marc Hausman, hosted a panel featuring Jessica DeCianno, Senior Director of Marketing at CrowdStrike and Meredith Lawrence, Director of Public Sector Marketing at Polycom. Themed “Web2Sales”, the talk focused on key ways that marketers can leverage their web content for lead generation including:

1. Collaborating effectively with sales teams in order to more clearly ascertain your audience’s interests and needs.

2. Thinking like a publisher when creating content.

3. Understanding and utilizing the functionality of your marketing automation and CRM platform.
